Exploring the difference, and why both can be powerful on your journey
Hello, beautiful souls!
Let’s take a moment—just you and me—to talk about something that feels deeply personal for many of us: how we relate to our bodies. If you're like Sarah, our community muse, juggling motherhood, career demands, and shifting body changes, you’ve probably felt the pressure to “love yourself” even when it feels hard.
But what if we shifted the goal from perfection to peace?
Today, we're diving into the difference between body positivity and body neutrality—and how both can support you in feeling more grounded, empowered, and seen.
What Is Body Positivity?
Loving your body—loudly and proudly
Body positivity encourages us to love our bodies exactly as they are. No filters, no size requirements, no “when I lose 5 kilos.” It’s a beautiful movement built on celebration—of all shapes, sizes, and stories.
You’ve probably seen those feel-good posts online that tell you, “Love your stretch marks. Embrace every roll.” For some women, this feels incredibly uplifting. It’s the nudge they need to start showing up, confidently and unapologetically.
But what if you’re not there yet?
When Body Positivity Feels Out of Reach
It’s okay if you’re not ready to shout “I love my body” from the rooftops
Maybe you’re standing in front of the mirror and trying to say the affirmations… but it feels like a lie. Maybe some days you can only muster, “This is the body I’ve got today.”
That’s okay. You're not broken. You're human.
Body positivity is a powerful tool—but it can feel heavy when we force love where there’s still healing. Which brings us to something softer...
What Is Body Neutrality?
A gentle shift from self-judgment to self-respect
Body neutrality says: “I don’t have to love every part of me all the time—but I can respect my body for what it does.”
It’s about functionality, not appearance.
It’s about recognising that your body:
- Gets you through 12-hour shifts
- Holds your child when they cry
- Carries you on walks when the world feels heavy
Neutrality allows space to just be. No pressure to adore. Just permission to accept.
Why Body Neutrality Might Feel More Empowering Right Now
Especially if you’re tired of fighting with the mirror
When you stop obsessing over how your body looks, you free up space for more important things—like joy, presence, and connection.
✨ It’s the feeling of wearing your leggings and not worrying about how your thighs look—because you're too focused on how good you feel moving in them.
✨ It’s realising that you don’t need to change to feel worthy of showing up.
That’s the magic of body neutrality. And sometimes, that’s the first step toward deeper self-love.
You Don’t Have to Choose One or the Other
There’s room for both, depending on the day
Some days, you’ll be glowing with confidence and feel like celebrating your curves.
Other days, you’ll simply put on your leggings, show up, and say, “This is enough today.”
💖 Both are valid.
💖 Both are powerful.
💖 And both have a place in your journey.
The goal? Peace. Not perfection.
Reflect With Me: Where Are You Right Now?
A few journaling prompts for your quiet moments
- What’s my relationship with my body like today?
- What am I proud of my body for doing this week?
- Do I feel more comfortable with body positivity or neutrality right now?
- What does my body need from me—love, rest, nourishment, movement?
No pressure. Just reflection.
